I just had to share this story.

To begin, you gotta know the background :) I just joined my local gym that is small but amazing. It has classes everyday and such. So the first day I show up for Silversneakers class not knowing what it was, just wanting to take a class. I came up to a line of seniors mildly confused about my presence asking me if i was sure I was in the right class.Turns out it was a seniors specific class. There was a girl a tad younger than me standing with her grandma. Partially because I felt bad she would be the only young person I asked her if she was going to the class, she quietly said yes and I announced “We are going to be bffs this class!” she smiled and did the class together, it was fun.

So today (four days later) I went to my Pilates class at 7:30 and step at 8:45. I was pooped as I stepped outta step, all the seniors lined up ready to go in for their class. All of them remembered me and I was asked to join them and, loving older people, I couldn’t say no. So I joined them again, this time alone.

I started talking to the girls grandma (her granddaughter was golfing this day) but she got to telling me that the one woman who originally told I should join them today (HERE IS WHERE THE AWESOME BEGINS) was a pilot. This beautiful little old lady, she must be about 80, has been a pilot her whole life. That isn’t the craziest part though, she started flying in the 60’s!!! Back when women were expected to raise kids not get jobs. She came up and started talking to me when she heard us talking and proceeded to tell me there were many instructors that quit their jobs because she was a woman and they flat out refused to teach her… BUT SHE NEVER GAVE UP! In fact she still flies today for pleasure!

You guys may not care at all about this. But it inspired me. I am so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone, humbled myself, and joined all the lovely older folks for their class. They give me the kindest words, the most inspirational stories and beautiful smiles.

I guess what I am saying is it is so easy to treat fitness as a “me” thing. But you close out so many awesome people and awesome stories if you do. Learn to love the journey!
